Full disclosure: the only thing I don't love about living by the sea is being scared that I'll destroy my camera getting a photo that wasn't worth it. I love the good weather, and the bad weather.

Electronic devices do not love water. This is a pretty well-known fact. But even devices that are allegedly OK with water, like the Canon R5 with the 15-35mm f2.8 attached, are not going to like salt water. Salt water is the worst, and it's also a pretty significant feature of living by the sea.

So when I go out and try to get interesting pictures by the sea, I'm always paranoid that I'm going to wreck my gear and have nothing good to show for it. Not this time though. Camera's still working, and I got some pictures I'm happy with.

I still can't really believe that this guy went in the sea like this. It was so rough and loud and he just walked up and shot into it. He wasn't in there very long; Charlotte was still on the phone to the coastguard when he came out. It is pretty stupid to swim alone when the sea is like this. Even if you're with someone, if you get dragged under all they could really do is call the coastguard to let them know there'll be a body in the water. I'm not scared of the sea, but there's no way you'd get me in there when it's like this.
