JLW Bruce the Keyboard
09/11/2024
I know it's been ages since I built a new keyboard. I've been very excited about this one. I first learned about it in a kbd.news post about dcpedit's Masonry and immediately loved the idea, but I'm pretty much stuck on 10 column layouts at this point and I can't be bothered with 12 (the Chaotist looks so fun, though). For whatever reason I was looking back at this github repo a couple of weeks ago and saw that it's actually inspired by another board called Bruce, which is 10 column! And in stock! And has a load of cases available! In this economy.
In terms of colours I wanted to make this like those ortholinear keyboards you see at some post offices, because I'll never be able to actually get one of those. From memory, I got pretty close, but I can't find any reference pictures. Maybe it's just our post office that has one of these and Barbara is actually a secret keyboard enthusiast. I would love that.
I was looking into paints and cerakotes because the print was described as "black" but actually it's more grey, and I think it goes pretty well with the caps so I might just leave it. I would like a nice beige like my Duo but can I be bothered to deal with cerakote? Probably not.
