New camera photo dump

I heard that DSLRs are dead. Mine seemed fine but better safe than sorry. The Canon EOS R5 is an outrageous bit of kit though. I've been really enjoying it.

Friday

07/10/2022

It's Friday. We watched a video on why some cats have favourites and now family life has become a very passive aggressive competition to win the cat's love. I'm going to win, because I'm going to cheat.

When Tabitha's school runs trips, they invite parents to volunteer to help. I always volunteer because it's a lot of fun, but they never give enough notice as to whether your help is needed. This time they gave less than one working day's notice, and messaged me this morning to say "no thanks", so I booked in some calls for Monday. They then called this afternoon to see if I was available to help! Two working hours notice.

I feel like I want to let them know that the reason they get so many people drop out is that normal adults need more than 5 hours notice to allocate time in their working week, but I don't know how to do it without sounding like a fake-important jerk. So what I'll do is whinge on my blog instead. That feels very 2005.

Friday

24/09/2022

I said I wasn't going to post more Friday posts, then did two in a row. Self motivation is a strange thing.

If someone is standing in a supermarket, avoidably blocking an aisle just because they're totally unaware of their size and surroundings, you should be legally allowed to flick their ear. Not to harm them; just a quick reminder that there are other people on the planet.

The Weekend

19/09/2022

Went to Andy and Alanna's wedding. Ate lots of nice food. Dressed like a fancy boy. Went for a long walk. Ate more nice food.

Friday

16/09/2022

I brushed Friday this week and now she can stand to be in the same room as me. She actually follows me around and sits on the toilet whilst I brush my teeth.

There's a girl in Tabitha's school called Jasper, and every morning I see her on her way in and she says "morning Jasper" and I say "morning Jasper", and I don't know why but I really like that part of my day.

Friday is turning into a proper cat and, as such, she isn't really interested in being near people unless it's by accident. I don't even have any recent pictures of her to share and I haven't for a little while. This little crossover period from cute kitten to grumpy cat where you have a cute, grumpy kitten is weird. Grumpy cute faces are just as believable on kittens as they are on toddlers.

I know I'm literally the last person to start using it but I have become obsessed with Midjourney. I'm having so much fun thinking of prompts.

Bluebell Railway

30/08/2022

When I was a kid I loved steam trains. I think that's a fairly common thing. I've wanted to visit this railway for ages.

Walk to Peacehaven

27/08/2022

Went for a long walk to Peacehaven and the "Mr Bean Stairs" as they're known in this house.

Friday Saturday

27/08/2022

Didn't do a post last week as I was away and also didn't take any cat pictures. We now have a big cardboard castle in the kitchen for some reason.

ArcTanGent 2022

21/08/2022

I soloed ArcTanGent this year. It was a very different experience to previous years but it's definitely something I'd do again.

Andy Weir is sci-fi's Dan Brown. Project Hail Mary is a sci-fi page-turner, just as The Martian is, just as The DaVinci Code is, just as Angels and Demons is.

Me, 3 weeks ago: hmmm it'd sure be nice if it rained.
The world, 3 weeks later, the day before ArcTanGent: sorry, just getting round to this - you wanted rain?
Me, who will be camping tomorrow: no!

More Pizza

14/08/2022

Had another attempt with the Ooni. This went a lot better than the last time.

I really want to wear jumpers again. I don't like summer at the best of times but this just feels silly.

Friday!

13/08/2022

Friday is not enjoying the heat. Spends most of the day trying to find a cold surface to lie on; there isn't one, sorry.

People who've read The Martian: oh the book is so good there's loads of maths in it and it's super realistic

Me: ...sounds great. Fiction with extra maths!
