Week One

I'm sick of being annoyed that I'm not taking pictures any more, so I'm doing this again. I don't want to create a load more noise so every Friday I'm going to post a photo from each day for the preceding week. I am likely to miss some days, and some days are bound to be filler, but I just have to do it.
The weekly thing also takes inspiration from these cool weekly retrospective posts I mentioned in my newsletter (are you subscribed?! Why not?!) - I like the mild pressure a weekly retrospective applies to actually do something worth writing about. Or to look for nice details in the mundane; that appeals to my lazy nature.
This week I've been in a village outside Groitzsch in Germany visiting friends, and it's been so relaxing. January was long and hectic and I'm glad we planned this. It was originally to see a band on Wednesday then we expanded the scope.
Feb 1st, 2025
Went to town to get some final bits for Germany and I got the nicest joggers I've ever had. The things you get excited about as an adult.
I also nearly bought some Yeezys but they were so uncomfortable. Relieved, really. He's like the Elon Musk of trainers.

Julia asked me to help coach the U12s and it was probably my favourite coaching session ever. They're so fun and receptive, I wish I could do it more often but it's not really practical. Especially after the summer.
Made pizzas. Dough was so weird to work with but the flour was old and kept creeping up the hook which makes me cross.

Germany today! Cold pizza for breakfast was a delicious mistake. Had caffeine for the first time in a month. What could go wrong.
It's -5°C in Leipzig.

Went for a 50km cycle that took us around the power station near Groitzsch. Was a lovely day; a little cold but warmed up quickly. I love these above-ground pipes. I think they're for gas.

Silent Planet in Leipzig. Freddy Fresh for dinner which I love. The curry sauce they use is like Coronation sauce which is one of my favourite substances.
Missed Avoid (but we were trying to because I do not like them), Vexed were pretty great, Like Moths to Flames were brilliant but I hate bands that boss the crowd around - if I just want to stand there and listen, you need to find a way to be OK with that - and Silent Planet were incredible. Enjoyed the pace of the show a lot - it's not often a band gets to the end of their set and I'm not ready for them to be done.
I found my people to hate - a couple in N95s with hand fans, dancing and enjoying themselves wrong. They did a mini wall of death where they ran at each other and hugged and I was nearly sick.

Gaming day. Came up with a perverse way to play Windblown co-op where I use a PS5 controller with my Steam Deck because the deck has 2 dongles daisy-chained for battery and ethernet. Windblown's online seems a little unstable - I wish it let you do P2P if you're on the same network. Maybe it does but it doesn't seem to.
Took the dog out for a walk around the village. I really like it here - there's so many super old farm buildings but I don't know which are people's homes so no photos of that!

Another lazy day today. Took the dog for a walk then played some more games, went to the supermarket (I love German supermarkets), and watched TV with the kids. Ate Indian food and watched a Midsommar. Solid Friday.
