Nice to Have Known You

20/01/2012

I haven't heard this phrase for ages. Facebook has basically meant that every relationship destined to end peters out and dies awkwardly in the increasingly ubiquitous "friendship cull".

I take great comfort in "nice to have known you". Someone knows they're not going to be around any more, and cares enough to tell you and pay a compliment. Goodbye has such a negative reputation, but it can easily be a compliment. We navigated some semblance of a relationship, and now it's over; no ill will. With social skills such as mine, I can rationalise that as a win, and I'll take it.
