First outing with the MS Optical Perar 4/28
14/08/2012
I was fortunate enough to grab what appears to be the last (for now) MS Optical Perar 4/28 off Japan Camera Hunter a couple of weeks ago (great service, very friendly and reasonably priced, definitely use Bellamy if there's a camera you can't find). This is a handmade lens from Japan, and it really shows in the build quality. The thing is absolutely tiny, but very sturdy. All of the movements are smooth and sure (the aperture is a tiny bit awkward to adjust at first, but once you get the hang of it it's fine) and I absolutely love watching the unprotected aperture blades move as you adjust them. Yes, you can see this on other mechanical lenses, but this lens is special. There is no glass covering the blades at all. You can touch them (though I haven't and won't on purpose!). It gives a very raw, industrial, almost unfinished feel to the lens.
Anyway, these were just some shots I took wandering around by the hospital. They're pretty nothingy, but I'm concentrating on learning the hardware so I know how it works for when I need it! All zone focussed (f8 set to infinity) and just snapped, I'm already very pleased with how this lens performs on the X-Pro1. There are plans afoot to go and shoot in Brighton tomorrow. I love shooting in Brighton, so hopefully that'll put this thing through its paces properly.
